"Rebel. Maverick. Barrier breaker. Trailblazer. Icon. Activist. Mother. Ally. Stonewall Ambassador. ♥ ♥ ♥ Today we are insanely proud to announce Madonna is a Stonewall Ambassador supporting Stonewall Day + the 50th anniversary of Stonewall!!" This is the message from the Instagram account The Stonewall Inn letting us know the queen of pop will join this amazing Stonewall organization to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Stonewall riots, which were a series of spontaneous, violent demonstrations by members of the LGBT community against a police raid that took place in the early morning hours of June 28, 1969, at the Stonewall Inn in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City. They are widely considered to constitute the most important event leading to the gay liberation movement and the modern fight for LGBT rights in the United States.
Stonewall (officially Stonewall Equality Limited) is now a lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender rights charity in the United Kingdom. This is now the largest LGBT rights organization not only in the UK but in Europe, it was formed in 1989 by political activists and others lobbying against section 28 of the Local Government Act. Its founders include Sir Ian McKellen, Lisa Power and Lord Cashman.
